When is the last time you changed the distributor cap? These things are notorious for having a cross firing or misfiring issue if you do not use a high quality cap.
steve - on the 6cylinder misfire the cause in my van 2004 was the boot to the spark plug clicked when i put on, but needed to shove all the way on and lock it on the plug it will click again and no more problems, i changed everything and 2 mecanics said spider just check the plug wire.
What’s up everyone. I heard everything , tried everything . It seems it’s just advice from other forums being dragged around . I’m hearing about people getting rid of there Astros because enough is enough . I’m just gonna put my $.2 in on this matter . So one day while I was working on digging deeper into this misfire everyone claims to know of but no matter what keep spending money and can’t figure out WTF is going on. So while out in my driveway my neighbors sweet wife decides to bring me a beer . Says she noticed me working in the heat . While I started putting my fingers into things I should not have been fiddling with . I found something ! It cost nothing . I figured out the problem to what I’ve been grinding teeth . I will send photos when I get the chance . When you pull the doghouse and look toward the distributor cap. There is a square box just after the cap toward front of van. I do not know what this box is called but it has wires going into it . It’s not hidden , it’s at top of engine right after cap. I leaned on it and noticed while van was running , that it misfired . I pulled the top of the box off looked and looked and seen nothing . Put cover on and shoved . Same thing again , misfire . Pulled the cap off again when I noticed. The cap has wires that go into cap that hold connections . When the cap is back in position it connects the unit . What I found was that the connections in cap have a tendency to move around leaving the connections to not connect properly . With cap pulled off I turned toward me and noticed 2 connections were pushed back enough to make improper connection. So I put the cap back on and was handed needle nose pliers from beer lady and pushed down the 2 connections I noticed were loose . Turned on the van and she started up perfect . Shoved box , no misfire . I was beside myself . Drove the van up hill , down hill, did a burn out even took on highway and opened it up. Hit around 80 mph and it happened . Van ran like a #%<€ champ. Passed my NY inspection . Never misfired again . No up hill or speeding check engine light flashing . I would like to finish up with , Your welcome ! The end of misfire issues . A thank you to the neighbors wife . Good times . Enjoy your Chevy Astros !
I have a 2005 Astro rwd I just had the trans rebuilt and a fuel pump put on. Anyhow prior to that My van would crank up but would never fully start even after having the work I had done to it. So today my mechanic was looking over my spark plugs, took one of em out had his wife try starting it up and it started up, so put spark plug back in and started up again. What do you think that could be from?
