There is a computer module for the seatbelt and air-bag that has an accelerometer and tracks other inertial sensors, for GM cars they call it the Sensing and Diagnostic Module (SDM), equivalent to Ford's Restraints Control Module (RCM). Pertinent data to the accident can be downloaded from this module. http://www.theairbagblog.com/airbag-black-box-and-crash-data-recording/ . Hope this helps.
