2000 chevy malibu gas won't reach tank

Asked by Jessica Aug 17, 2016 at 09:02 PM about the 2000 Chevrolet Malibu

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

When i try to put gas in my 2000 chevy malibu it
acts like the tank is full and spills out. My gas light
says low fuel and my needle is stuck on empty.
The guy I bought the car from said  the meter
needed replacing but i know the tanks not full bc i
road around the other day until it started
sputtering like it was running out of gas and tried
to put more in it but again it acted like the tank
was full. I checked the fuel pump and its working i
also put a bottle of mystery oil in it hoping to clear
any clogged lines but it hasn't helped.

Check your vent hose from top of your tank. If it's clogged it will trigger that the rank is full it won't vent the fumes
