First, my car started ruuning hot &
eventually destroyed head gasket.
Had the motor replaced, throttle
positioning sensor, & antifreeze pan

It starts perfectly fine & reverses fine.
But once its put in drive it starts

"puting" ? putting ? putt putt ing ? You have it in drive, you apply the accellerator, and what, it hesitates ? misfires ? shakes ? the exhaust goes putt putt ? sounds like you need them to take another look and not lose your old parts just yet. I am wondering also if it has to do with your shifter position and the electrical that is related to the shifter. try all gears. call the shop that worked on it and ask for extra help.

If your T.P.S. was not restored to factory default, disconnect your battery posts for 5 minutes. Re connect them and turn your ignition key to run without starting your vehicle ( 4 times ). This will allow for the throttle position sensor and idle air control valve to reset to factory default position. If this fails to correct the problem, check your air filter to make sure the air intake plenum is not clogged. Then have your catalytic converter examined to determine if it has failed. Good luck.
