Nissan transmissions

Asked by sweetpea61954 Aug 29, 2012 at 11:52 AM about the 2008 Nissan Sentra

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

What my question is...If so many Nissan people are having transmisison problems with newer Nissans (mine is a 2008) why isn't there any type of class action suit againt Nissan????????  My car is only 4 years old and should not be having transmission problems when I have Nissan do regular maintenance (oil change every 3,000 miles).  This seems like an extremely large amount of Nissan cars having the same transmission problems.

my wife got her transmission replaced for free, her Altima had 60,000 miles on the CVT tranny, We was told Nissian extended warrantys to 100,000 on CVT's because of all the problems. Her's was a 2007. When we bought the car, all the salesmen and new car managers said they had never had problems with the trannys!

There are millions of these cars put on the road, and the ones that have had issues have been serviced and replaced it seems by Nissan at no charge. A "class action suit" sounds like an asinine idea, as there is absolutely nothing compensatory to sue for which is the only real reason to ever civilly sue. What punitive damages would there be (even in a high litigation type state) that wouldn't be overturned immediately by any judge anyway? Um, none, so good luck with that. Not even the "McDonald's verdict" was upheld, but no one pays attention when the system rights the wrongs that juries do at times with "punitive awards"... If you want to be "that guy" that wants a paycheck when life just happens, sweetpea, give it a shot! ;)

I've been a tech at Nissan for 5 years and only seen about 2-3 cvt trannies being replaced as long as they're maintained they seem to go forever. the 2003 muranos were the first Nissan cvt and they are still going strong 10 years later I've seen a few with 500,000 plus km's (300,000 miles) and are still good.

Robert Lavallee's garage: Hi, I have a '08 Nissan Sentra with over 130K miles. Should I do a transmission oil flush? or how often are you supposed to do them? I really need help because I keep getting mixed answers and you are or were a Nissan Tech so you might know.
