Are all the other gears still workin and in their normal position. 1.) If they are not check the cable. You can block the wheels disconnect the cable from the tranny and verify the cable and tranny selector. 2.) If only Reverse is affected and the other forward gears are working normally you most likely have internal tranny damage. A sprag clutch?

when it shows reverse on the dash its actually drive almost like its not moveing far enough to get to revers or park is this posable?

Yes. You need to inspect the cable on the tranny end. With the gear selector in park, dis-connect the cable from the tranny rotate the shifter counter clockwise. If the shifter does rotate from it's position go to "P". You can then verify all of the gear "Stops" P-R-N-D-3-2-1. If the tranny feels good put it back to P and concentrate on the cable. Check where it connects to the mount bracket on the pan. The cable may be broke.

The cable or brackets could also be damaged in the steering column but check below first. The column is a pain to work on.
