Can towing make your check engine light come on and make your truck run ruff?

Asked by ALjay_1958 Nov 04, 2014 at 12:46 PM about the 1999 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I towed a small tent trailer  25 miles for a friend. I parked my truck (1996) the next day my check engine light came on and since then it is running rough.

The extra load on the engine may have triggered a sensor. I had this happen to me with my vehicle. I towed my boat to the lake and burned up the catalytic converter, CEL came on. Have the code(s) read to determine what sensor(s) are triggering the light to come on.
