on a 1998 Chevy Blazer the switch is on 2 x 2 how do I know when to switch to 4 x 4?

Asked by jfish Dec 09, 2013 at 04:58 PM about the 1998 Chevrolet Blazer

Question type: General

I recently was driving and it had been snowing and noticed my car was not handling very well.....some fish tailing, etc...  wanted to know if it would be okay to push the button that said 4 x 4 while I was moving at a slow pace or do I need to come to a complete stop first

you shoould be fine to engage it while driving at a lowerspeed ,those new chevys are On-The-Fly. iv heard of people getting stuck in a bigmud hole and trying to engage 4wd sitting still and ruining the Transfercase.

I know on my 2004 Ford F-150 FX4 it can be switched from 2WH to 4WH with my foot of the gas around 15mph or so coasting on level terrain.

Don’t try going into 4 low unless you stop and shift into neutral, 4high safe to shift at speeds below 15 mph foot off the gas.
