I'm assuming it's a hydraulic system in which case you likely sprung a leak somewhere. Only time I've had something like that happen was on an older car when the clutch cable broke. I would guess it takes brake fluid from the reserve, so check and make sure you have fluid in the reserve... If it's low it's a good sign that that's the problem... Can't say that I've really troubleshot any clutch problems before. I've replaced afew but always because the disk or pressure plate had gone bad.

Could be clutch return spring. THis happened to dad's Mazda B-series truck a few years ago.
