I need to know the name of the sensor on the side
of the engine of a 1996 Chevy cavalier that smells
like gas is leaking from it it's on the side that
clostest to the fromt windshield

If its on the fuel rail you might be talking about the fuel pressure regulator. It has a small diameter rubber hose attached. If so then you will have to relieve the pressure from the fuel system to R/R preferably on a cold engine.
