Anti theft system

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 96 chevy lumina and I believe the
anti theft has engaged for some reason. I've
checked the fuses, tried to jump it, then I
cranked it from the starter itself and a
couple of times I did get it to fire up but it
died immediately. What can cause this to
engage all the sudden cuz I was just driving
it and it was fine. If I get a new key with the
correct corresponding ohms will that work?
Or do I have to go to a chevy dealership and
get some kind of code to reset it?

Try a new key before you begin to throw money at it ,,, usually the simplest thing will fix that problem ,,,if not then call an automotive locksmith .. they have the correct values for your car

starting in 95 they may have the transponder in the key , without that the car will not start , better check

VATS Passkey failure is very common on GM vehicles. The culprit was most likely nothing more than time, age, and bad luck. These are easily bypassed these days. This link will help. http://www.vatspasslockpasskeysecurityhelp.com/
