My engine fail safe mode warning comes on when I run my AC. What does this mean

Asked by kareneb53 Jun 30, 2012 at 06:39 PM about the 2005 Ford Five Hundred

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

When it is warm outside and I am using my AC, when I go to put the car in park it seems like the engine surges.  the last couple of days have been really hot, and when I start the car up and put it in reverse, the engine surges and then the engine failsafe warning comes up and the engine stops.  Then if I turn the AC off, the car starts and runs normally.

I have the exact same thing happening right now. My 500 has 224K miles on it . At 180K throttle box parts were replaced. Time for a new car !:-( Thankfully this is the only major issue my car has ever had! I turn my AC off anytime I'm going to park or back up, sad it's too hot for this!
