shudder during acceleration

My truck begins to shudder between 40-50 mph but stops if I speed up or slow down. It rides rough before 40 and after 50 but not as bad as the 40-50 mph shudder. It seems to come from the rear of the truck but I just can't tell. I've had it to two different garages. The dealership gave me some excuse that I wasn't giving it enough gas and it was "laboring". I took it to another shop that was recommended and they've looked at it twice. They've said it could be 1. fuel filter and tune up. 2. universal joints. 3. wheel bearings......But they just can't tell. They suggested that I wait til it gets worse. Any thoughts?

In my experience as a mechanic that has always been bad U-Joints, or a bent drive shaft that has caused the drive shaft to vibrate between such speeds. Personally I'd try replacing both the U-Joints on the drive shaft as it is the cheapest fix to try, and it has a good chance of being a solution. Hope this has been helpful.
I had a car that did the same.. I had to replace the universal joints. After that it stopped.
Thanks. That's what the mechanic said but he didn't want to take it apart and that not be the problem. Trying to save me money. I think I'll just take it back and have them replace the u joints.

My does the exact same thing, it lasts about 5-8 seconds and then suddenly clears up which leads me to think that it's either fuel or ignition related. If it was the u joints then it would continue to do it and not clear up like something kicked in or it adjusted itself!
my 09 gmc savana 1500 awd has the same concern,light aceleration at 40 up to 65 mph .it will shudder unless i give it more throttle ,at 70 its fine or under 40 mph its fine ???
i wish i knew what the problem was ???

From my experience pulling Transmissions daily over the last year the torque converter is locking and unlocking briefly probably due to being warped from heat over the years (the case with mine) you can try additives but almost 100% a converter replacement will solve the issue as it did for me after a year of annoyance. I have a 2002 gmc sierra 1500 2wd. When I drive constantly at 40-45mph the truck feels like its driving on the rumble strips on the side of the highway, also does it at 70-75mph. Ive replaced both front hub assembly's, new driveshaft with u joints, and all new brake calipers, pads and rotors. Nothing fixes it please help

active fuel management, get a "range" and it will stop all of that 8 cyl down to 4 cyl bullshit, also they fluids need changing as the tran fluid is the wrong ones and causes the converter to create problems. Buy the Range adapater, plug in to your port and will stop all of that Active Fuel Management shudder.
