64 galaxie 500XL frame swap w 96 Lincoln Town Car
Asked by oldcars_clearmyhead Apr 20, 2019 at 11:48 AM about the Ford Galaxie
Question type: Car Customization
Anyone frame swapped a 64 galaxie XL w a
96 Lincoln Town Car? I'm about to begin.
Wheel base is a near match within an inch or
so... And the low profile air ride geometries
will help. Having owned a couple of town
cars I can say both would dust my crown
vics and easily cruise 115 on the tollway.. or
pull a 5000 lb trailer w ease.. on paper the
specs are similar.. but the tc is far more
powerful and stable. So..my question.. any
advice on making this swap go well?.. I
mean.. what could go wrong? Haha..

Do you have a lot of money? I would not attempt this unless I had 30 or 40 grand to play with.

I'm not hiring a 100$ per hour shop for the swap nor is it a restomod so no big spend.. .. and yeah my friends hire theirs out at hourly shops nn spend 30k. but this will probably go patina rat driver.. And.. its a galaxie.. I'm into for 300$ and the low mileage great running Lincoln Town car set me back 100$.. my son and I will do the swap.. 12 chassis bolts, wiring, brakes n ac deciding to keep old firewall and dash or tfer Lincoln firewall dash and floor is currently a thought as I see crown Vic dash n firewall tfers...
Good luck building your death machine.

They are cool. Have a friend who let his 70 go a few years back.. My xj6 I bought new was much later after Ford was involved.. was lovely but was constantly committing suicide
How the project coming along I'm planing on the same build my grandpa gave me his 64 galaxie exact same car I was thinking about doing a frame swap looking at different frames a Crown Vic is 4 in smaller wheelbase the Lincoln Town Car is only 2 in wheelbase just seeing how it's coming along what speed bumps you hit on the way of the build if you don't mind

Keeping much of the running driving grandma driven Lincoln Town car. Helps it was low miles n perfect interior. Firewall to back seat pan at 80" is a perfect match.have to take a couple inches width out of Lincoln firewall . Lots of progress. Logged about 30 hours on it to date. It's happening. Keeping for now Lincoln interior and dash while xL seats at the shop and I restore XL dash and swap on on a weekend.

Firewall gone n dash board carefully unbolted and removed. So now its down to trimming down Lincoln firewall width etc to fit

A 20$ sawzAll n 3packs of metal cut blades later

Reducing firewall to radiator distance will be a task on Lincoln vs XL. May have to use crown Vic radiator n cooling fan OR 4.6 Cougar /Tbird. Also. If you're doing a similar project and Keeping your galaxie pans look at 90's Cougar gas tank as an easy retrofit to eliminate trunk hump"

Geometries are a match. Still having to fit and adjust Galaxy body before attachment and sealing at mated surfaces. Lincoln interior still in tact. Will restore and change out dash to Galaxy dash and seats
