how to make standard 1973 440 engine to a 1973 440 high HP for year 1973

Asked by jalan440 May 14, 2013 at 12:27 AM about the Dodge 440

Question type: General

i have a 1973 440 motor with 220hp and want to make it into the 275hp offered in 1973..  Is the difference in camshaft, heads and carb to cause the 250 additional horse power.

You will not be happy with the way an oversized camshaft makes for difficult chugchug-glugglug000chugchug idling which is difficult to bring down to do adjustments on...unless you're takin' er to the track everyday is a compulsory waste of time and money.~

your best bet is to go with a mopar performance cam they are smooth. I run them in my cars. I have a small block 360 with a 474 lift cam and its a 4 speed, its no different to drive than a stock car just a lot more pep and less mpg
