oil pump drive on 440 engine
the oil pump drive shaft is not turning. however the motor will run. Is the gear
pinned to shaft? If I pull the gear and shaft?, how can I mark it to get it back
into proper time? This motor is in a 1974 Dodge Vouge Motor Home if that
makes a difference.

You mark the distributor rotor location to a fixed location, mark rotor to the distributor cap mounting surface to get timing close. the gear at the end of the distributor drives the oil pump, the oil pump shaft slides into the bottom of the distributor, but what makes you think the oil pump shaft is not turning?

It's been a long time but put the engine on #1 TDC. The distributor shaft is cut on a helix and the shaft rotates a few degrees when it engages the cam gear. The slot in the gear for the distributor runs parallel to the engine. It should point straight forward and backward. If not pull it up rotate a tooth and push it back in so it is parallel. There is a 5/16 hex on the bottom of shaft for oil pump drive. You can buy a piece of hex stock about 18" long and make an oil pump "prime" shaft. Chuck it in a good reversible drill, engage the oil pump and spin it ccw and in a few seconds the pump will labor the drill and make some oil pressure if working prop. Install the gear, distrib, I think the rotor should point at cyl #7, ( that's #1 ) on dist cap. Turn dist a few degrees so ign fires just before #1 and it should run. Hope my memory is correct it was 40 yrs ago.
I myself have a 440 in a 1973 Dodge travco I've been running into issues with the breakers I've also been running into issues with finding parts for the motor as far as filters and plugs if there's any way you guys could help me out
