How to you make a rough estimate on the taxes, transfer of tags etc on buying a car?

it varies from state to state- in MN sales tax on cars is 6.5% of the selling price or trade difference (you don't pay tax on the value of your trade), and then in the city of Baxter, MN we have an additional $20 fee assessed on all vehicles sold here (baxter city tax is 7.385%- it wouldn't be fair if we had to charge that when other dealers are charging 6.5% so they charge a flat $20 extra on vehicles). then there are approximately $115 in paperwork fees (title, transfer, paperwork, etc.). Then you have license plate fees for your state too the best place to check is your local license bureau- they will know all the fees except the dealer's paperwork fee. I hope this helps
Thanks Richard, that gives me some idea of how much this will cost. I appreciate it!
