If you're worrying about how much the maintenance is, I wouldn't recommend buying it.

The V-8's have double the oxygen sensors, valve components and exhaust issues versus the inline 6. I recently looked a one in a BMW recycling yard and found out that even the interior door panels were outrageously over priced. Unless you know how to turn your own wrenches or have a really good mechanic, you might want to wait until the latest model hits the salesroom floor and the prices start to drop a bit more. By the way, I have been driving Bimmers for over 20 years and doing almost all of my own maintenance.

O f course door panels will be expensive for a 6 seies .Howmany of them are out there? supply and demand.I'm sorry that I found this answer annoying ,but is there anyone contemplating the purchase of a semi-exotic car that does not understand the the deign and consruction differences between a six and eight cylinder car.

So, the 6 series is a great car. That being said: we make a lot of money from maintenance and repair on this car. If you have never owned a German car before, the maintenance will be high for you. If you are familiar with German cars, then it's pretty typical. Of course it depends again on what engine and trim package. For example: your most commonly occurring expenses will be brakes and tires. A typical brake job should cost you about $1200 or more (again depends on options). Tires: most of these cars had runflats... very pricey. I take off the run flats and recommend a COntinental Flat repair kit (Tirerack). When you're buying a car with no compromises, maintenance will reflect that.
