Car drives in over drive

Battery may be going bad. Charge it or replace it. That solved it for me. It was my father's car and not driven very often as he was elderly. The battery charge went very low and as I drove the car it appeared not to leave first gear no matter how much I depressed the accelerator. I was told the car is programmed to react to the low battery power in this manner. I bought a new battery and that has not happened again. It's been 2 years and 23,000 miles. This is a 2007 300C AWD
