My 2009 PT Cruiser keeps overheating

Asked by Patchysocks Jun 02, 2015 at 04:33 PM about the Chrysler PT Cruiser

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My Cruiser keeps overheating.  Replace the water pump and timing belt last year. Just replaced the thermostat.  I don't see any water on ground, but I need to keep adding fluid.

You may have a bad head gasket. Check your oil to see if it's all milky on the stick. Have you noticed any large amount of really white smoke from the exhaust lately? Go to the auto store and get a block tester. It's just a tube with some chemical. That will let you know it your head gasket is shot. Youtube has plenty of videos on how to do the test. Very easy. If it passes, you may want to check your radiator fans and make sure that they are coming on when the car warms up. Your radiator may be plugged as well or your radiator cap may not be sealing. See if your hoses are hard when hot. If not, the cap is bad and the system is not pressurizing.

I had the same problem with my 2005 pt limited -non turbo- the electric radiator fan has a high & low speed & my low speed went out & it would heat up @ idle or low mph
