I'm not a car "fanatic", but I love the Corvette. Someone in my town is selling a C3 Corvette with 40,000 miles and what looks to be a "T-top" for $16,000. The car appears to be in near-mint condition. I think it's an 1979-82 Corvette.

If that is the car you want, it sounds like a decent deal. Go for it.
Well lets see. They claim to be all original 40k miles? I would check out the VIN number and see exactly what engine combo it has. Is it manual or automatic? Check underneath for frame rust and rust around the windshield area. Take it for a test drive. Maybe post up some photos for all to see?
What year? The older ones are worth more then the later ones due to smog restrictions. The later one had rubber baby buggy bumpers, not so much chrome. Have a mechanic check it out, even low mileage old ones have parts wear out due to age, and some for just setti9gn around. You will find you will put a small amount of money into it, but if it is a true low mileage car, you like the looks, and runs great, it is a very good price to snap it up. The tires may need to be replaced if they are over 10 years old, and the break pads may need changing and rotors turned to keep it safe. Make sure the A/C is working, no junk in the gas tank, and the radiator fluid is clear/clean. No gas leaks in the carb? If it passes, grab it now.
All C3 Corvettes had T-tops except, of course, the convertibles. Like califcarson says, the prices vary greatly depending on the year and equipment.
