I inherited an '87 corvette convertible with manual transmission. What should the coolant temperature be? In idle after starting, it rose to 200 degrees. I don't remember it going that high.

That's about right. Gauges are an approximation of what of the temperature really is.

no. that's about right. 195 is what the t-stat should be at although have seen some hotter like 212 boiling temp-
boiling point is closer to 240 with coolant and under pressure. you do have a water / coolant mix in the car......right?
