correct me if I'm wrong, there is a wire holding the whole show in town there....noted there is play....turn the engine by hand a few degrees, push in haul off and pull out....taking advantage of what little play you've got....it is always trouble when the wire clip stays behind....a dental mirror and spotlight is needed then, so mind the wire still attached when you pull it out finally~

the volkswagens I've serviced featured a six bolt flange with allen screws (an inconvenient VW size) ...that was 93-96 and years prior....evolution made them quit using the flange....putzy with the bolts etc.~

I have never seen a clip fall off a axle. It just needs a good hard jolt with a good pry bar. They can be a pain sometimes you just need enough force to pop the clip out.

If bolts are removed you need to apply force to it suddenly to remove it and use a crowbar maybe

Thanks I could not get it to budge so I took it in and they can't get it either.
