yellow engine light

I am having problems getting to the bottom of why engine light is on, after
visiting two mechanics I am still no further forward
firstly temp warnig light was coming on, took it to my usual mechanic who
after three hours could not find a fault.............yellow engine light now on!
bmw specialist ran test which showed three faults
thermostat activation, electric fan activation, coolant temp no signal, he
replaced thermostat housing but still no signal from sooland temp sensor
yellow light still on.....
what do I do now? he suggest mini garage!
