Ok, My 85' Stock Westfalia Vanagon has a problem. My Alternator came loose and the 2 bolts
underneath the Alternator sheared right off, my guess is they were not replaced with the newer bolts
that the Bentley manual suggests. I pulled the Alternator off and it looks like one of them had broken
quite a while ago, Iv'e only owned it for about 2 years. I have studied what would normally be a
simple extraction but not with this, I called a few VW Mech's and 1 one would do it with a blank
check the other 2 just said no.. Any ideas? I cant even get a good tap with a punch let alone get a
drill in there...Anything would help...

If you cannot get a drill and tap into there...you're gonna haveta lower the engine out of the bay. Sorry...it sucks. Be extra careful about the fuel lines, too.

Buy the Go Westy replacement bracket. The original design is a total flaw. The reason the shop won't drill it out is that you can crack your head and he doesn't want responsibility.
