Cold start

Asked by Jorge Dec 28, 2014 at 08:18 AM about the Chevrolet Cruze

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I am having a tough time when trying to start the engine cold.
Crank time is too long and when the engine starts it sounds like it is about to die. I havê
to, nearly, wait a full minute before the engine sounds like it should. After all that it runs
smoothly throughout the whole day.
Any ideais on this issue? Think it has something to do with fuel filter/pump?

I am not a mechanic, but I fix what I can when I can figure it out. You don't mention what type car or engine, but I always start with the easy answer which sounds like it could be a fuel filter

Smellycat, it is a Chevy Cruze LT (as seen above the "question type", right next to my profile pic). Compact sedan with a 1.6L engine. Thanks for the hint. If that's correct, taking into account what Tom suggested (fuel pressure test), I'll rather replace the whole fuel pump since the filter is part of it and the whole process involves lowering and/or removing the fuel tank.

I have ordered the fuel pressure test gauge and should get it in 12 days time. Meanwhile, have run an OBD test scan and got quite concerned with a couple of readings (one EGR related and other unknown)... please see files

Purge control valve. Easy to replace. Granddaughter's Chevy Cruze same issue.
