time to swap my engine

335

Asked by Roscoe Jul 29, 2008 at 03:16 PM about the Nissan Maxima

Question type: Car Customization

it's about that time.....i'm getting low compression in one of my cylinders.

i don't kno if i'm going to go with the VQ35DE(03-up maxima, all 350Z) or

the VQ30DEK(00-01 maxima). the 3.5 come with more displacement and

more power(about 240hp) but aftermarket parts cost alot...the 3.0 is

essentially the same motor i have now(VQ30DE) but it come with a

variable intake that boosts the 3.0 power from 190 to 220hp...it's also an

easier swap and easier to turbo...idk. i was also doing some research on

dropping the 3.5 cams into the 3.0 but i think i'll put that on hold for now

because i don't kno if it will be too muck overlap for a turbo. I'll take any

advice anyone has to offer this will be done in about 4 weeks....

If you're not worried about your wallet (parts, fuel consumption) then I'd go with the 3.5 from the newer 350Z and/or Maxima. I've heard alot of good things about that motor. If you're wallet can't stand the extra "throttling" then I'd probably stick with the 3.0 and add on some aftermarket turbo and intake (maybe port and polish the heads for both intake and exhaust) and let it ride! Best of luck!

in all honesty.... do the easier swap. you even said its got cheaper aftermarket parts. unless you have a full hydraulic lift and a TON of money. then go with the 3.5 im dropping a 2.5L SVT Contour V6 in my Focus and it's a PITA. and compared to other swaps, its one of the easier ones. so do whatever you have the time and skill and tools for.

also you're only talking 20hp. if you decide to turbo it you'll be able to regain that difference and so much more. or even just some good aftermarket bolt-ons.
