Contrary to popular belief, rental cars are usually pretty well maintained. They don't want the vehicles breaking down on their customers. The bad news is these vehicles are driven by many different people who really don't care about them. Some rental cars are beaten up and abused by the renters, especially sports cars! Average mileage is ten to fifteen thousand miles per year for the age of the vehicle. So a two year old vehicle shouldn't have more than 30,000 miles on it. Be sure to get a vehicle history report such as Carfax before you buy! Look for frequent maintenance visits and no accidents. Keep in mind that most rental companies do their own maintenance and repairs so it won't show up on a vehicle history report a lot of times. But the company should have their own records of maintenance and repairs that you'll want to see before you buy. Hope that helps! Jim

buying a 1 or 2 year old low mileage rental car may be a good idea. They usually are very well maintained and some of the factory warranty will remain.
