Why won't my 1999 Buick Park Ave start after I switch the trans from a 98 Buick?

Asked by Guru9P5F9D Jun 13, 2022 at 07:21 PM about the Buick Park Avenue

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 1998 Buick Park Ave. and a 1999 Buick Park Ave. both have the
base transmission and I installed the 98 transmission in to the 99, The only
thing I found that's different between the two is that the trans from the 98 has
the safety neutral switch on the outside of the trans and the 99 trans has the
safety neutral switch built inside the trans, but and now it wont start with the
key but if I jump the starter it'll fire right up, What could be the problem?

Electronically incompatible transmission, ignition switch, wiring issues. Have you tried driving it yet to see if it will shift. To be a truly plug and play the transmission numbers must match.

Yes I drove it and it shifts fine, goes through all the gears, For now I just put a starter button in it, but I still would like to figure out why it won't start with only using the key.

Then you will need the circuit diagram for the crank circuit and see if the voltage is where it needs to be during the crank position from the ignition switch to the park switch then to the starter solenoid. Maybe there is a pinched wire.
