is the thermostat located in the upper radiator hose justs sitting in the waterpump housing? waht tools will ineed once the thermostat is visable

car is loosing water have to fill ever other day sometimes daily replaced the waterpump and got a new thermostat but had to use car so put it back together with out replacing with new stat..still running hot if no water is leaking on ground where is it going.....new i should have just changed the stat to begin with cuse it sometimes get hot rapidly sitting still or in motion then will sudenly go back to norm

Yes I would change the thermostat ASAP. If you overheat your engine you'll really have issues and major expense. The coolant could just be going to the overflow reservoir. Then when the engine cools it draws it back to radiator. Your thermostat is sticking that's why it is acting erratically.

Oh yes and the thermostat is in the housing that connects to the upper radiator hose. You'll need socket set, combination wrenches, scraper and some RTV gasket sealer.

Depending on which way the flow of your radiator is some are top flow some are bottom thermostat is usually located on the opposite side of the water pump. another thing to check if you have water leaks are your cooling hoses and the heating systen radiator located under the dash board
