engine fan keeps running after I turn the car off with the key

Asked by Guru9G2TL4 Jun 17, 2023 at 12:47 PM about the Jaguar X-TYPE

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Gentlemen: I have a 2000 Jaguar vdp that I purchased new. Yesterday,  the
last 2 times I turned the car off in my garage, My mileage is 133,000 well
cared for miles; this car is in excellent shape inside and out. However it
appears that the fan & engine belt keep running.  I restarted the car with the
key and it started right up.  When I turn it off and remove the key, the fan
starts up on its  own.  After a short time, the fan, etc. shut off by themselves.
What is the cause of this condition and is there a "simple" solution to solving
this problem.  I find no fault, other than this recent condition with this vehicle.
Thank you - Fred Mosley

Gentlemen: This car overheated en route to Boston. AAA flat beded it to my expert Jaguar mechanic in Hollis, NH. Problem was a bad thermostat which he replaced. That was a couple of weeks ago and all is well.
