Do you have to pull the gas tank to replace a charcoal canister on 2007 Avalon?

Those CCs came into being when we realized that gas vapors were being released into the atmosphere through the gas tank vent- so now, the released vapors are filtered thru the canister before venting- they have been on cars since the '70s- is it necessary to replace one? Do they reach saturation? Is yours located by the gas tank? I don't know, but it sounds suspicious to me- I would get a second opinion-

I have the same question. I looked under the car. It looks like there are two options. It is impossible to get to the charcoal canister without extensive work. The first step is to lower the exhaust system. From there the first option is to remove the gas tank. This is risky in that the two bolts that hold down the gas tank straps are very rusty. The heads may strip when trying to remove them or worse, they may snap off and then there is big problems. If that happens, it is a point of no return. The tank must come out and the broken bolt would need to drilled out. Worse case is the threads get damaged and now you can't bolt the gas tank back. The other option is to remove the rear subframe crossmember. A bunch of very rusty bolts with many attachments. This looks like big trouble either way. Not a do-it- yourself project for me.
