I had a buddy who had a 1964-1/2! It said it right on the rear light! The first production models. The "first" one to officially be sold hit the assembly lines in 1965.

My uncle bought a 2+2 new in '65. Drove it two years and garaged it when his son, my first cousin, was born to save it for him. When my cousin turned 16, he wanted a new car, so it stayed in my uncle's garage until he pasted away. Now, my cousin has the car in his basement garage. Has 15,500 miles on it. All original, except tires and belts. Beautiful red.

I didn't know. I should have known because my son had one many years ago. I just never ask him. From now on, I will be more active in asking questions.

Fast backs, even the first ones are all considered 1965 models not 1964 1/2 they where not put in production until Sept. 1964, the first Mustangs where the coupe and convert first made in April / May 1964, Fastback later in Sept. they are more valuable but considered 1965's.

is there any difference between 1970 mustang fastback boss 302 front fenders and a 1970 mustang fastback the same? I was told that might not be interchangeable..

The first fastback was built on the 1964 assembly line after August 7th that year although some claims have been made that a few 64.5s got through before then Ford said they were all 1965s. There was a regular fastback and a 2+2. The latter had a 289 interceptor which for normally only built for special order police cars. My wife raced hers on the strip for years.
