What month and year did Ford start making the Fastback?

Question type: General
It is my understanding that Ford did not start factory line production on the Fastback until the spring of 1965 in San Jose,CA.
Is this true? When did they first start making the car?

Ford started production on the Mustang fastback at the beginning of 1965. Carroll Shelby designed a modified version of the fastback, called the GT-350, and it was these that were produced in San Jose. They first appeared on January 27, 1965.
The fastback,debutted,on september 25,1964-not a 64 1/2,by any means..Carrol Shelby,started building the GT-350,in January,1965...and,the rest-is elegant history...
Banana,is -spot-on,with the shelby intro-date..January 27,1965...

(My Christmas present. :-)) It was the first Fastback Mustang in the Los Angeles area. When I would park it downtown or in the Wilshire area, there would be a crowd (c. 6-12 people) standing around looking at it for the first few months. It was dark metallic green, chrome spoke wheels, red line tires, green interior, 289 V8, auto transmission. It was a great car! I drove it up and down the coast road to San Francisco several times. Loved every mile!
Also: Several months later I moved to San Francisco and drove all the same streets as Bullitt, long before him. :-), in the same color, but previous version "Stang.
