There are several things you can do without tearing into the engine. Replace the standard air intake with a high volume unit like K&N. Add dual exhaust. Add a performance chip.

go to american muscle.com and get some underdrive pullys for it you can change those in about an hour or so you can get like 25 to 20 hp from that alone i like b&k products like get a b&k cold air intake a 75 mm throtle boddy spacer roush tune your computer you can also change the cam pretty easy its good to go ahead and change the cams intake and gasgets anyway so you might as well upgrade it with doing hooker feaders give you 20 hp there tuned and remove the cats from the exhaust or put the flowmaster cats on it a supercharger is another great way to get hp but its expensive try the first few things i mentioned youll notice a big difference with just the underdrive pullys i use the b&k brand
