How do I re-install tensioner on timing belt 96 escort 1.9, compress spring with what?

replaced head and took tensioner off, how do you compress the spring to bolt it back on. this is on the timimg belt

www.youtube.com/watch?v=NRFRgHiHnyk --- check this out. I believe yours may be similar. This guy used used a pry bar to pry tensioner back out of the way then tightened the center nut to hold it there till he got new belt on. Then loosen the bolt so tensioner will then press against the belt.
