Dome and running lights remain on even when engine is off

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
This is a problem I can't seem to get fixed. When the car is shut off, the dome and running board lights remain on, which drains the battery. has anyone else had this problem? How did you fix it?

It should be possible to shut them off manually with the light switch. If that doesn't work your switch is probably bad. Remove the fuse whenever you shut down until you can get it repaired.
I agree with Jonathan, good advice. Haynes repair manuals will tell you how to do it yourself. Napa usually has these.
There is a dial to the right of the headlight knob that dims the dash lights. If you roll it up all the way till it clicks, it will turn on the dome lights and running board lights, and they will stay on until you roll it back down past the click.
Did you ever figure out the problem that caused the lights to stay on? I have the same problem
I'm having the same issue. I replaced the switch, but the lights still stay on until it gets to 15mph.
It's a common problem with excursions. Spray wd40 in all the locks they will shut off. Ive done this many times. It's an electrical sensor in one of the doors that causes it.
ItsDavid , who answered above, is absolutely correct. The little roller switch next to the light switch will shut them off when you roll it back until it makes a click sound. Also be sure the dome light switches at the center of the cab ceiling are off and the doors are closed.
Fuse #14 did nothing, lights still on
Your Are correct. I Sprayed WD 40 On All The Door Hinges And My Lights Finally Went Out. Next Step Was To Find The Fuse.
All wrong! Turned the roll switch all the way off, sprayed all doors with wd40 and no fuse is labeled in the manual for running board lights. Can’t get them to go off. I have to disconnect the battery every time I turn off the truck if I want my battery to work.

Just replaced 'Door Ajar Sensor' on my '03 X today, my prob was in passenger door but could be any of the doors or lift gate. Don't have to disconnect battery anymore thank goodness!

You all all wrong that are recommending the roller switch we all probably are aware of this I have had my truck since 2001 it's 2021 and I'm having the same issue lights go out after about 40 to 45 minutes after the truck is off.Just saying we are aware of the obvious this is something else.

We are having the same issue on ours. replaced all door switches still had issues, checked with known good light switch from other truck and still had issues. drove to the back property to hook up a trailer and all of a sudden the issue went away. pulled back up to the barn shut the truck off, got out locked the truck and lights went out. came back out short time later opened the door and the lights came on as usual. closed the door and started the truck and the lights stayed on. found a short to ground in the drivers door boot between the door jam. black and yellow wire. I ran a jumper for the mean time until i can properly fix it.
