Will a 4.0 sohc engine from a 1998 Ford Explorer fit in a 2002 explorer xlt

The 4.0 in your 1998 is the old style pushrod type engine. The 4.0 in the 2002 is a SOHC engine. They may bolt up, but you will probably have problems with the evap system and computer. Also, the 4.0 from 1998 has about 20 of so fewer ponies under the hood.
