I have a 73 302 in my truck. I was driving to work one morning, down shifted to make a corner and it died. It will start but no matter what I do it will die shortly after.

Question type: General

Will start but won't stay running. I've changed plugs and wires, rebuilt
the carb, replaced fuel lines, and have checked vacuum lines, triple
checked timing to make sure my timing chain was good. And yet still
the same problem. What else could it be?

1986 f-150 new rebuild 73 302. Less than 20000 miles. I just don't
get the problem.

Could be coil going bad. It that a points ignition set up? If so get an electronic ignition kit to change it over to electronic.

It ain't missing so I'm pretty sure there firing. Switching the points over is something I've thought about. I'll let you know how it goes

The kits are fairly cheap $30-$50. For most if I not mistaken. And real easy to install.

I think my timing chain skipped a tooth. Any name brands you would recommend.

I just get all my parts from auto zone. I don't worry about name brands so much. I have had good luck just using what they say my vehicles call for oem.
