1996 Explorer 5 L motor

on May 19, 2013 Mike asked a question about his Explorer motor. It was misfiring and
backfiring. I am having the same problems he had. The engine will start just fine, but
when I press the accelerator it backfires, and tries to die. When I nurse it along I can
get it up to any RPM above 1500 and maintain that RPM, but when I let up on the
throttle or give the engine a little more throttle it goes into the same routine backfiring,  
sputtering, etc. I have done all of things that you suggested to Mike. Major the firing
order was correct, checked the fuel filters, etc.(this engine has the coil pack, crank
fired ignition system).

I noticed that there were several other people having the same problem with their 5.0L
Ford engines. Was there a solution to this problem?
