How much am I looking to get a 1999 F-150 2-wheel drive transmission rebuilt. Had one quote for $2,600.
The transmission shutters in one gear and only does it when it gets hot...usually from 2nd to 3rd gear. Been doing this for some time. Truck has 116,000 miles...don't know whether it is worth it to have it fixed.

Check the price for a remanufacturered transmission. The price quoted is a little high for that. Remember, a rebuilt basically means repaired up to the point of failure. From the sound of your failure it sounds like you need your transmission repaired, not rebuilt or remaned.

When was the last time the fluid was changed? The cheapest solution if it is a mild shutter is to replace all the transmission fluid! If you do it yourself it may just be contamination. Plenty of videos on youtube to give you an idea of how to do it!. Find out what type of fluid it uses head on down to Wally Mart buy some and exchange it! My shutter was mild fluid change solved the problem! If u find this suggestion useful pleas click my helpful link
