1978 Ford Ranger Manual Transmission

Asked by ChiefThunderCloud Apr 13, 2016 at 07:03 PM about the Ford Ranger

Question type: Shopping & Pricing

I have, what I think is, a 1978 Ford 2.3L motor  The only number I found on
the block is D8EE 6015 EA,  According to what I can find it should be a
Ranger truck motor.  I need a manual transmission for the engine to go into
an '89 Ranger truck.  I was told a Mazda tranny will fit but don't know what
years.  Can anyone tell me what kind of manual transmission can I use?

The Ford Ranger came out in 82 as an 83 model. The engine you have is NOT from a Ranger. More likely it is a Ford Pinto engine. The were good motors in their day. The engine block casting number is indeed 1978. Not sure on the transmission swap. See the link for more info....https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Ranger

I did some more looking around about your engine and it is possible that it came out of an early Ranger 1982 and up. Ford either had engine blocks left over or they used the "D8EE" casting number on some of the later blocks.
