Ford Ranger 2016

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
A rat chewed through a thin red and white
wire coming off the battery terminals of my
2016 Ranger. This was found by the
mechanic undertaking the first service.
They told me to come back in January and
leave the car there for 3 days and they
would fix it! Would not tell me what the
wire was for!
Anybody have any idea of what this wire is
for and maybe a picture of how I should
splice it back together? Much appreciated

Register an account on Autozone's Web site and look for your make/model's wiring diagram, you'll then know what every wire goes to (the red wire likely goes to the alternator). Or join a Ranger forum, someone there will likely have one. You can either replace the battery harness, most stores carry them, or splice the old one, BUT that takes more than just twisting them together. Slide some heat-shrink tubing over one end of the cut wire, then butt them and twist them together, and solder the wires. Using solder is crucial. Then slide the heat-shrink tube over splice and apply heat (heat gun or hair dryer). Tubing will shrink and prevent moisture getting to splice. Lot of how-to's on Youtube on this type of repair. When all is done, I would take a meter and go through entire harness and look for other chewed wires.
Great thanks I will register and do as you suggest
Their wiring diagrams are under "Repair Guides" on their site.
Thanks for that I couldn't find it you read my mind! Going to look at the repair guides section just now
