If your starter isnt working then it wont crank or start up but everythung else will work fine. If nothing is working then you should check the battery first.

You should still have electrical power to vehicle, good or bad starter. If the electrical circuit from battery is broken however you'll lose all electrical power. So follow Blade's suggestion, check battery first. Check battery cables form a complete circuit.

Thank ypu. Next question..if its the starter wouldnt there have been signs that its messed up? I mean we have driving it and nothing has been out of the ordinary. He drove to work then met me at the store we went in hour came out and now it womt start..

No clicking at all? First make sure battery has charge, or try jump starting it. Then check starter relay, check fuses are all good in fuse/relay box. Check ignition switch allows power to ACC, dash lights come on, CEL illuminates, etc. Then check power to starter with a meter, see pic below. If starter and ignition circuits prove good, then replace starter.

Okay has he tried to jump start it from another car or a jump pack? A weak battery can cause same symptom you're having.
