My 78 Mercury Marquis is not receiving
gas from the fuel tank to the pump so
what is the problem

Have a 1978 Mercury Grand Marquis is not receiving gas from the fuel tank to the pump vehicle has been sitting for about 3 years Prime vehicle motor turned over started but the fuel still will not come up from the gas tank to Prime the starter why is that

Lots of things it could be. Fuel pump relay, inertial cut-off in trunk, fuse, bad fuel pump.Replace the relay for sure, cheap and easy.. Fuel pump is in tank, so make sure it's getting power first.
