When the clutch pedal on my 92 Legacy is pressed the car shifts fine, no grinding but acts like it's in nuetral no matter what gear it's in, whether engine is running or not. What's up?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 92 Legacy was running fine. I parked it and when I returned and started the car, it
would not move no matter what gear it was in. It shifted smoothly with no grinding but
acted like it's in nuetral and just revs, in all gears. The clutch cable was recently
replaced.

The new cable may have been improperly installed and come apart. Does the pedal feel the same as before? The throwout bearing may be stuck "in" and clutch disengaged....pressure plate collapsed ....regardless the clutch is stuck disengaged. Getting in to worse scenarios...bolts sheared off of flywheel...

This is the clutch cable '92 Legacy, but for illustration only. If was broken like this, it would be engaged

Did you ever resolve the clutch problem? I have a 92 Legacy , 5 speed, AWD with the same problem. When pushing the clutch in, the clutch fork moves to the rear and feels normal but the car won't move in gear. It's also possible to put it in gear WITHOUT pushing the clutch in. The local shop wants a lot to repair it. Help please.
