No, no, it's not ignition. Subie's ECM actually SKIPS a beat with ignition in order to depress idle speed! (You can see this if you use an old ignition strobe light, as it will flash intermittently on any one wire.) What happens here is a conflation of an unbalanced ignition (if you will), very low rpm, and too few bolts stiffening the engine-to-trans assy. So the whole car shakes at 600 rpm. To help lift it a bit toward 700-800 rpm, which will be MUCH smoother, start by making sure that idle air starvation isn't a culprit by thoroughly spray-cleaning the throttle body. Then CAREFULLY loosen the screws attaching the throttle plate assy on the side of the throttle body, and SLIGHTLY rotating it for a small increase in idle. (If you go too far the ECM will "catch" you, and replunge the idle and also throwing a check engine light for annoying it. The trick here is to get +50 to 100 rpm without waking up the computer to thinking you've messed with the butterfly closing position. Usually works fine, but of course ensure you have a nice clean TB before fussing with its door opening "crack" angle. I suppose you could also have a bad load of fuel, or a partially clogged injector, so chasig that with a bottle or three of cleaner in the tank isn't a bad idea. Also, are you SURE you didn't drop a new plug and pinch its anode down? Ha...we've all done that....

Don't go away! Your daughter appears to be the same age my GRAND-daughter, so you'll have to step in soon enough! What a nice motor, too. Ern

Hey there Mr. SubaruGuruBoston, thank you for the compliment! That is my Granddaughter, I have 3 Grand kids. I had to rest this afternoon, I just got back.

Good information Guru. Is there no feed back to reduce the cylinder cut out when the idle speed is too low?
