how do I tell what replacement engine fits my 2005 Subaru (2.5 Litre). Is EJ25 enough to tell  if it is the same ?

Determine if it's PZEV (CA emissions) as well. If so, 2006-2009 should fit easily, with perhaps even a 2006-2007 not needing to swap out exhaust nor ECM.
