Automatic Transmission Sticking on an '99 Outbreak Basic Trim

The transmission is sticking and sometimes wont pull into drive, when you pull out.
Suggestions on what can cause this issue?

Is this a manual or auto? if it's a manual trans it sounds like your clutch needs adjusted. I'm not sure what would cause the issue you're describing in an auto though.
