No it is not a good car to buy, nothing but problems.
Mini Coopers are great cars, so I disagree with Rowefast entirely. I had a 2011 and my ex has it now, she also has a Mini Cooper Convertible. My old one has plenty of miles with no issues. Her's the same.
rowefast what problems does it bring doesnt it depend on how one takes care of his car.
After doing some research, 2005 to 2009 were the worst years for problems. Seems from 2010 on up the complaints drop off. So there is truth in what mightymini11 says. In these years mentioned for problems, it was timing chain, cooling system, and premature clutch failure where the biggest complaints. Seems they got there sh-t together from 2010 on up.

From 2011 onward the Mini's are reliable. You must maintain them properly which is not inexpensive, but if you can handle oil changes, topping off, filters, coolant, etc then you can save yourself a lot of money. MINI makes money off of charging bmw service prices at dealerships. If you learn basic vehicle maintenance then the parts aren't any more expensive than any other car. The drive train is solid and reliable. The interior is well built and ergonomic. All the mechanicals are solid. There had been some issues with timing chains which were addressed in late 2010 by a redesign. Other than that you really can't go wrong with a mini =) I love mine very much. You can pick up a good one for about 11-12 grand

In 2019, J.D. Power deemed the Mini Cooper as its most dependable compact car and ranked the Mini brand fourth overall for dependability. Four years prior, J.D. Power ranked the Mini as 28th out of 32 for reliability. J.D. Power's rankings indicate that the Mini Cooper's quality has significantly improved.
JD Power sells their studies to car manufacturers. Don't rely on their so called ratings.
